Women get top four positions in UPSC exams
Women secured top four positions in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams. For the first time, the results have been declared in four days of the closing date for the interviews.
Among five toppers of the exams, four were women: Ira Singhal, Renu Raj, Nidhi Gupta and Vandana Rao.
Ira Singhal, a physically challenged candidate topped the Civil services examination despite her 62% disability, and became the first physically challenged candidate to top these exams. This 29-year old IRS officer hailed from Delhi. She wants to be an IAS officer and do something for physically challenged people.
Renu Raj is a doctor from Kerala. She achieved the second rank in her first attempt. She has been preparing for the exam for the last one year.
Nidhi Gupta is also an IRS officer from Delhi, who acquired the third position in the examination. She is working as an Assistant Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise.
Vandana Rao, who occupied the fourth place is also from Delhi. She is the topper in OBC category. She aims to be an IAS officer. She succeeded in her third attempt.
Suharsha Bhagat, an IRS officer (Income Tax cadre) working in Nagpur secured fifth position. Hailed from Bihar, Suharsha is a chemical engineer from IIT, Bombay.
Out of 1,236 candidates that have been selected for appointment, 590 belong to general category, 194 are from Scheduled Caste, 98 are from Scheduled Tribe, and the remaining 354 belong to Other Backward Class.
