Woman offers to sell body organs for children’s medical care | Fusion - WeRIndia

In a shocking incident, a woman from Kerala offered to sell all her organs including the heart to pay the hospital bills of her children and clear debts.

Santhi, a 44-year-old woman from Kochi is living in a tent along with her five children on Container Road at Mulavukadfor the past few days. She placed a signboard in front of the tent. The board reads, ‘Mother’s body organs for sale (including the heart) to pay for her children medical care and pay off debts.’

Santhi is a resident of Varappuzha. She used to work as a driving instructor, but she lost her job after the outbreak of COVID-19.

She was estranged by her husband. She is facing a huge financial crisis and three of her children are suffering from major health issues. Besides, she owed money to a lot of people which piled up to around ₹20 lakhs.

She was living at a rented house along with her children, but due to financial problems, she could not pay the rent. As a result, she had to move out of the house.

Her eldest son, 25-year-old Rajesh, who was the major bread earner, met with an accident and underwent brain surgery. Her second son, 23-year-old Renjith is suffering from a tumour in the stomach. He underwent surgery for it.  Recently, her 11-year-old daughter met with an accident. She requires neurosurgery.

Her other son, 21-year-old Sajith used to work at a movie theatre, but he lost his job due to COVID-19. And the last child is a school-going kid.

She has a huge debt to repay. In this context, she found no option to meet all her financial needs. Hence, she put her body organs for sale in a desperate condition.

After the incident came into light, the Ernakulam District Collector and other officials assured her to solve her problems. They sent her back to her rented house assuring the rent would be borne by the Lions Club. Health Minister KK Shailaja assured to take care of hospital expenses.
