Two-day Bharat Bandh

Two-day Bharat Bandh

In order to protest against the policies of the government, the central trade union called a two-day nationwide bandh on January 8 and 9, to be precisely started from the midnight of January 7 to January 9.

The central trade union alleges the policies of the central government as repressive policies; hence they called for a bandh.

The bandh will have a major impact in Left-dominated states like Kerala and West Bengal.

Several farm unions will also join the bandh to protest against the failure of Modi government to address rural distress issues.

The farmers are also alleging that the government has failed to protect the lands of rural farmers from the hands of corporates. That’s why they joined the strike.

The strike is called by ten central unions and is supported by organizations like AITUC, CITU, HMS, AIUTUC, TUCC, AICCTU. In addition to that, banking and insurance employees also will join the strike.

Emergency services such as ambulance service, hospitals, medical shops, milk booths will be open.

However, the bandh affects certain services.

The following services will be affected by the Bharat Bandh:

  • Transport services, RTC buses, autoes, cabs etc. as many of them are joining the strike.
  • Schools and colleges may be closed due to transport problem.
  • Hotels will also be closed to support the bandh.
  • Banking services due to the strike of employees called by the All India Bank Employees Association (AlBEA) and the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI).
  • Farmers under the aegis of the Left peasant wings

However, some state governments like Tamil Nadu warned their employees not to participate in the bandh and if anyone participates, they will not be entitled to any pay for these days.
