Petrol Pump nationwide bandh?
Petrol pump dealers started a two-day no-purchase strike on November 3. However, they are now threatening to do a full-fledged strike on November 15. Petro Pumps have been making demands to increase commission amongst other things.
However, when the CIPD was told the demands would be met with a compromise, they have decided to post pone the bandh.
According to the Consortium of Indian Petroleum Dealers, they are protesting to get their demands. Petrol pumps want to selling fuel for limited hours and not work on Sundays or any other government holidays.
Rajiv Amaram, the joint secretary of CIPD said that all 54,000 petrol pumps across the country will observe one-day strike if the oil companies do not meet the demand by them. The protest from petrol pumps resulted in major impact. In just the state of Telangana, more than 1,400 truckloads of petrol and diesel was not taken for transport in the two days. Amaram continued that all petrol pumps have stopped purchasing petroleum products.
He said that the petrol bunks will sell petrol products only during the times of government office like 9 AM to 6 PM. The pumps also want to have holiday on Sundays or other government holidays. Amaram said that if these demands are not met, the pumps will call for a strike.
CIPD made demands to implement the recommendations made by the Apoorva Chandra Committee in 2011. According to those recommendations, commissions of Rs.4 for petrol and Rs.3 for diesel per litre should be given.
At that time, the UPA government hiked commission on petrol to Rs.2.15 and diesel to Rs.1.28 from Rs.1 and Rs.0.70, respectively. According to Amaram, the dealers were also supposed to get arrears from 2011.
Talking about the work hours, he said that a lot of electricity bill will be saved by petrol pumps by selling in limited hours. All bunks across the nation are joining in this protest to get their demands.
