PM National Apprenticeship Mela begins today
The Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela begins today. It is a one-day Mela organized by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, as part of the Skill India Mission.
The Mela intends to boost career opportunities and practical training in the youth. Over 1000 companies and 500 types of trades are featured in the Mela. Participants from more than 200 areas across the country join the event.
They will have better opportunities by getting this training. Candidates will be awarded a certificate after the training. These certificates are recognized by National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).
The main aim of the program is to improve the practical skills of the people and improve their employment opportunities while encouraging companies to hire more apprentices. Small enterprises can hire apprentices during the event. However, they should have at least four employees.
The ministry says around 2 lakh applicants participated in Apprenticeship Mela so far. The platform has provided more than 50,000 apprentice offers to boost the career growth of the youth in the country.
Anyone who has at least a class 5 pass certificate can participate in the event. Other eligible criteria include an ITI Diploma, a graduate degree, or a skill training certificate.
The aspiring candidates can choose their desired trade among various 500 trades like welding, mechanic work, housekeeping etc.
The government hopes that the programme will help many unemployed people to improve their practical skills. It says that many candidates have improved their opportunities across the country.
The Mela is held every month to allow candidates to earn while learning. Selected candidates as per the government criteria receive a monthly stipend.
Those apprentices who have trained under National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme have received a stipend subsidy. They received the money through direct beneficiary transfer into their account.
