PM Modi’s Teachers’ Day speech

On the eve of Teachers’ Day Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi addressed students and teachers from around different schools in New Delhi. These include 60 teachers and 800 students.

In his speech, PM Modi compared teachers with mothers quoting that “Mother gives birth to us, a teacher gives life to us”.

The interaction of PM with students was done at Manekshaw Auditorium. Several other students from nine states have joined in this interaction through video conferencing. The entire programme was broadcasted by Doordarshan and All India Radio.

Teachers’ Day is celebrated in India on September 5 each year. It is the birth anniversary of second President of India Late Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.


On the eve of Teachers’ Day a memorial coin of Rs.125 denomination and another coin of Rs.10 denomination were released to respect the legendary teacher Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

Kala Utsav, a website, was launched by PM Modi. The website is an initiative taken by the Human Resources Development Ministry to boost art in education. PM Modi’s interaction with the students was for two hours which is followed by the interaction of President of India Pranab Mukherjee. The President interacted with the students of government schools.

Due to the interaction of PM with students, the celebrations of Teachers’ Day have taken a new form. Social media played a crucial role in these celebrations. Several people are expressing their gratitude and feelings towards their mentors and teachers on Facebook and Twitter.
