PM Modi to release Kisan Samman Nidhi for farmers

While the farmers are protesting against the new farm laws, PM Modi-led government is going to release the next instalment of Kisan Samman Nidhi today.

Today is the birth anniversary of the former and late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It is celebrated as good governance day (Sushashan Diwas).

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would release ₹18,000 crores for Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme through video conferencing. He announced this matter on December 23, Kisan Diwas. Kisan Diwas or Farmers’ Day is observed on December 23 in India to mark the contributions of farmers.

Tomar on this occasion said that Modi government has taken many steps to strengthen the agricultural sector.


He added that villages are receiving the complete given amount to rural areas. In the past, villages used to receive ₹15 out of ₹100 sent by the government. But, now, due to increased transparency and good governance, villages are getting all the ₹100.

He also said that over 3 lakh farmers from across one lakh villages submitted a signed Memorandum to the government extending their support to new farm laws. Their representatives met the minister for this.

Coming to PM-KISAN Scheme, it is a financial benefit scheme. Small and marginal farmers will be paid ₹6,000 per year. The amount is paid in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each.

Money will be directly deposited into the bank accounts of farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This scheme is intended to benefit more than 9 crore farmers and their families.

The programme starts at 12:00 p.m. today. PM will interact with a few farmers from across six states during the occasion. Agriculture Minister will also participate in the event.
