PM launches Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

To strengthen the health facilities of the country, the central government launched Prime Minister Digital Health Mission (PM-DHM). Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission today. He says that this is an extraordinary phase in the transformation of the health sector in the country.

Last month on independence day, PM Modi announced the Digital Health Mission. At that time, around one lakh health IDs had been created and launched on a pilot basis in six states and Union Territories.

The central government launched several digital initiatives. Now, it launched PM-DHM to create the digital health data of a person.

Every citizen will be given a health ID – a 14-digit unique number like an Aadhaar card. The health records of citizens will be saved in a safe digital system. The health account of an individual provides details related to his disease, diagnostic tests, doctors visited and the prescription.

This information will be exchangeable and accessible by doctors easily even though the patient shifts to another hospital.

The Health ID is created with the basic information of a person. A person’s Aadhaar number and mobile number is used for this. People can link their personal health records through a mobile application.

Registering for a Health ID under the National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) is voluntary. Besides, it is available for free of cost.

The government says that Health IDs improve the efficiency and transparency of health services across the country. Besides, the initiative helps people share their information with healthcare providers for hassle-free treatment and follow-up.

In addition to that, the initiative helps the government and policymakers for better decision making while implementing healthcare policies. It is also useful in preventive healthcare. The data also helps researchers and scientists to study the effectiveness of various programmes.
