New Metro line – Noida to South Delhi in just 20 minutes

The citizens of Delhi are in for a nice surprise. Their travelling troubles are soon to become easier.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has come with some big time announcements for the Delhi metro.

They announced the long-awaited first ‘driverless’ Metro trains on the Kalkaji Mandir-Botanical Garden stretch of Magenta Line.

They also announced that the inauguration of the 12.64 km Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden part of the corridor will be on December 25.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be doing the inauguration.

This fast corridor will reduce the travel time between Noida and South Delhi by three times. It used to take 52 minutes, but will only take about 20 minutes now.

It used to be that people had to take a train from Botanical garden, cross ten stations to reach Mandi house, a journey of 29 minutes and then change another Metro for another ten stations to reach Kalkaji in a journey of 28 minutes.

It would take at least another five minutes to switch the lines as well.

Now it’s much simpler and can happen in one journey. Noida passengers travelling to Faridabad can change trains at Kalkaji Mandir and go directly to Faridabad.

The Kalkaji Mandir-Botanical Garden section will soon be operated with the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling technology. Due to this, there can be one train every 90 to 100 seconds.

These trains can be operated in an auto mode. However, there will still be drivers present for now. They will have bright lighting and videos for guiding passengers. The trains will also have Wi-Fi, USB ports, charging points, LED and LCD screens.

At the wheelchair area, there will also be backrests. The new trains will have seats in various colors like red, pink, orange and blue.
