New guidelines for border area development

The central government has issued new guidelines regarding the proper implementation of Border Area Development Programme in order to fast track welfare in villages that are situated near the international border.

The center came to this decision after a high level meeting chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh. It was attended by top Home Ministry officials on Friday.

The various initiatives taken for the development of border areas were reviewed by the Home Ministry.

An official from Home Ministry stated that new guidelines for Border Area Development Programme (BADP) will be issued soon to make it more effective for physical and social infrastructure development in border areas.

The new scheme has an outlay of Rs.990 crore during current fiscal. The scheme will be funded by the central government.

The sources from ministry stated that the main importance will be given to the villages which are located near the international border.

The main purpose of the programme is to ensure special developmental needs of people living in remote and inaccessible areas situated near the international border. It is also aimed to saturate border areas with the required infrastructure by combining various schemes and participatory approach. This programme was originally invented in 1980s and is now set to see new changes.
