New Driving License related rules

Do you have more than one driving license in different states? Then, you may be penalized.

Many driving license related rules have changed from October.

Reports state that more than 25 per cent of Indians hold more than one driving license due to migration to different states.

Now the central government has directed that driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates issued by all states and union territories will be uniform including color, design and security features.

These smartcards are facilitated with microchips having QR codes so that the cops can read the information on the cards easily.

This smartcard driving license depicts the emblems of both the state and nation in addition to the name of issuing authority.

The card will have the record of past data which can be stored for 10 years. The card will have the information of the blood group of the person and a declaration for organ donation.

The smart driving license card will also have all the details that the present driving license has.

No one-month relaxation period is allowed after the date of the expiry of the driving license. It becomes invalid immediately after it expires.

These changes will be on both the learners’ license and the renewed license. Even the registration certificates (RCs) will have a new look.

As the new BS-VI norms are coming into force, the smartcard will show the chassis number and emission norm (BS-IV/BS-VI) as well.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways stated that more than 32,000 new driving licenses are issued and over 43,000 vehicles are registered every day.

People going for a new license from now will also get these new driving licenses. The same rule applies for new vehicle registrations as well.
