LPG price hike sparks supply concerns across India
Rising global tensions are beginning to ripple through India’s energy supply chain.
Concerns over LPG availability have intensified as prices for domestic and commercial cylinders increase across major cities.
Recently, the cost of LPG cylinders was revised nationwide. A 14.2 kg domestic cylinder is now ₹60 costlier, while the 19 kg commercial cylinder has increased by ₹144.
As a result, households and businesses are closely watching supply levels and price trends.
Across social media, visuals of long queues at LPG distribution centres have circulated widely. Many residents appear anxious about possible shortages.
However, officials caution that some reports may exaggerate the situation. Authorities continue to monitor supply and distribution closely.
Meanwhile, the hospitality sector has raised strong concerns. Restaurants rely heavily on commercial LPG cylinders for daily cooking operations.
Therefore, any disruption in supply could quickly affect their ability to function. Industry representatives warn that irregular deliveries could slow kitchen activity in several cities.
The National Restaurants Association of India recently highlighted these worries.
According to the association, eateries in cities such as Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Chennai may struggle if supplies remain inconsistent.
Some restaurant owners even say limited availability could force them to reduce operations temporarily.
Price revisions also vary across major urban centres. In New Delhi, a domestic cylinder now costs ₹913, while the commercial cylinder stands at ₹1,884.50. In Mumbai, prices are ₹912.50 for domestic and ₹1,836 for commercial cylinders.
Other cities have witnessed similar increases. Domestic cylinders now cost ₹939 in Kolkata and ₹928.50 in Chennai. Commercial cylinder prices have climbed to ₹1,988.50 in Kolkata and ₹2,043.50 in Chennai.
In Hyderabad, domestic LPG costs ₹965, while commercial cylinders are priced at ₹2,105.50. Meanwhile, prices stand at ₹950.50 and ₹2,007 respectively in Lucknow.
The highest rates appear in Patna, where domestic cylinders cost ₹1,002.50 and commercial ones ₹2,133.50. In Bengaluru, prices are ₹915.50 and ₹1,958, respectively.
Despite growing public concern, officials urge consumers to rely only on verified information. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and authorised distributors continue to provide updates regarding LPG supply.
As geopolitical developments unfold, India’s LPG market may remain sensitive to global energy shifts.
For now, authorities insist that supply systems remain operational while monitoring demand closely.
