India tightens LPG booking rules amid energy supply assurance | Fusion - WeRIndia

India’s energy administration has moved to stabilise domestic fuel distribution while reassuring consumers about adequate national reserves.

The government has extended the minimum waiting period for booking domestic LPG cylinders from 21 to 25 days.

Officials say the change aims to curb hoarding and limit black-market sales. Recently, authorities noticed unusual booking patterns.

Some consumers who previously ordered cylinders every 55 days began placing requests within just 15 days.

Consequently, the revised timeline is expected to regulate demand and ensure fair supply for households.

At the same time, the government has directed refineries to increase LPG production. Domestic consumers will receive priority over commercial connections.

Officials emphasised that household cooking fuel remains a top policy focus. Therefore, refineries are adjusting operations to strengthen supply for residential users.

Meanwhile, India is also exploring new global partnerships to secure additional LPG imports. Countries such as Algeria, Australia, Canada, and Norway have approached India with supply offers.

These discussions could diversify sourcing options and strengthen long-term fuel security. As a result, policymakers aim to maintain stable availability even during global market disruptions.

In addition to LPG measures, the government addressed concerns about petrol and diesel prices. Officials indicated that retail fuel rates are unlikely to rise unless global crude oil prices cross $130 per barrel.

Current projections suggest crude may remain close to $100 per barrel. Therefore, authorities expect domestic fuel prices to remain relatively stable in the near term.

Furthermore, officials assured that the country has sufficient stock of petrol and diesel. Consumers should not worry about shortages at fuel stations across India.

The government has also accelerated efforts to source crude oil through routes other than the Strait of Hormuz. This strategy helps reduce geopolitical risks affecting energy supply chains.

Authorities also clarified that India holds comfortable reserves of Aviation Turbine Fuel. In fact, the country produces and exports ATF. Thus, aviation fuel availability remains secure despite global uncertainties.

Officials maintain that India’s fuel supply position is stronger than that of many other nations.

Through policy adjustments, expanded production, and diversified imports, the government aims to safeguard energy access for households, transportation, and the aviation sectors.
