Karnataka CM will meet PM to talk about Cauvery issue
As the trife between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu regarding the Cauvery water is going on, the Karnataka Chief Minister K Siddaramaiah appealed for Kannadigas to cooperate. He said that he fully trusts the Indian judiciary.
The CM said that Karnataka was wronged when asked to share the waters of the Cauvery River with its neighboring states. He accepted that the government failed to implement the order of the Supreme Court given on September 5.
The CM stated that the present violence in the state is because the state did not implement the order of Supreme Court. The top court even modified the order. He further added that even though the order given by SC was hard to follow, the government managed to release the order amount of water for six days.
Siddaramaiah made these statements at a press conference. He held a high level meeting with senior Congress leaders regarding the ongoing problems in the state. Talking about the man who lost his life in police firing in western Bengaluru, he said that a compensation of Rs.10 lakh will be given to the family.
He asked the media to help the Congress government to make the state peaceful again. Talking about the violence in the past two days, he said that this will tarnished the image of the city. He asked everyone to not be volatile.
The CM said that the state released water intermittently. He said that he wrote to PM Narendra Modi to intervene in the matter. He is hoping that the PM will engage with the CMs of both states and arrange a peaceful stance suitable for both states.
Security forces were deployed in Karnataka’s sensitive areas where Ganesh Chaturthi, Onam and Bakr-Eid are being celebrated. This is to ensure to security and peace in possible volatile situations.
