His proposal was supported by all 193 UN member states to make the date official.
The first International Day of Happiness was celebrated on March 20, 2013, officially.
Since then, it is being observed by the UN as happiness is fundamental to every person.
Achieving happiness is not as easy as one would think.
This year’s theme is ‘10 steps to global happiness’.
Today the world is celebrating Happiness Day.
So spend your day happily. In this context, know about the Happy Hormones that help promote your happiness.
Endorphins block pain and keep you happy. Rigorous exercise and eating spicy food trigger the production of endorphins.
Serotonin improves your mood. It makes you pleasant and sociable. If you lack serotonin, it causes depression and irritability. Exposure to sunlight, low-intensity exercise, consumption of tryptophan with carbohydrates, and remembering happy past events help produce more serotonin.
Oxytocin is the love hormone. This hormone releases in large amounts after the childbirth. It is the hormone that improves the mother-child bond. It is released upon physical contact. It improves the feeling of love and trust to increase relationship and bonding to boost happiness. Massage and physical contact like hugging improve the release of oxytocin.
Dopamine is a pleasure hormone which is stimulated when you strive towards a goal. It is mainly associated with goal achievement. Setting daily goals for a purpose in life increases dopamine production in the body. Exercising with an objective helps release dopamine with serotonin to double your happiness.
