Indian market has always been a great opportunity for expansion for many tech giants. Considering that there are still many people in India who have not even joined the internet, the market here is really lucrative.

The major problem is that most of these new users do not speak English. In order to cater for them, tech giants – Facebook and Google announced features that make it easier for users to create and access content in their own languages.

In Google, users can now flip between English and Hindi search results. There was even a major update in its Translate function recently which allows users to select any text on any app and see what it translates to.

Another new feature from Google, is the update to its Now on Tap function. Users can directly translate an entire screen on their phones. The support for Indian languages in this feature is expected soon.

Facebook is also dishing out features to capture the market. A new feature allowing users to post in multiple languages simultaneously has been launched.

Indic computing is the usage of Internet services in Indian languages. It is quite important in order for the average Indian to completely access the benefits of the digital world.

The special interest in capturing Indian market for the tech giants will only accelerate Indic computing. This is the case of mutual benefits where Indians have better access to internet and companies expand their reach.

However, there is still a long way to go. In order to completely experience Internet and smartphones in regional languages, multiple apps have to be downloaded and the experience is not smooth.

A report from Internet and Mobile Association of India and market research firm IMRB International in June 2015 showed that there 127 million users who access content in local languages. This was a 47% increase.
