Due to lack of skilled people in healthcare in rural areas, people have to undergo treatment from unqualified people. Improper usage of antibiotics has also been increasing in the country which is leading to several side effects later. Government recognized the need of healthcare professionals to avoid this and is planning accordingly. Even though the Indian Medical Association is claiming that there will be no value for MBBS due to the new proposed course, central government initiated the steps towards the introduction of the course throughout India for providing quality healthcare services.

Syllabus for this course was already designed with the help of JIPMER, Pondicherry. The syllabus includes community medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, basic surgery, basic orthopedics, gynecology, ophthalmology, ENT, dental treatment and radio diagnostics. Those who completed this course may be referred to as special cadre health workers whose services will be used in rural primary health centers. Individuals who completed their plus two and are willing to work in rural areas can join in this course after getting eligible via admission test. They will be provided with training on treating dengue, malaria, fevers, TB, and anemia, and preparing reports on people’s health.
