Government launching media campaign on immunization
The government is set to launch a significant 15-day media campaign next week to teach the people about immunization, before implementing its formidable health programme – ‘Mission Indradhanush’ in April.
Health Minister J P Nadda is additionally about to hold deliberations with the lawmakers of four states that has nearly twenty five per cent of the unvaccinated or partly vaccinated kids within the country.
‘Mission Indradhanush’, depicting seven colors of the rainbow, aims to reach by 2020 all such kids, who are either unvaccinated or are part vaccinated against seven vaccine-preventable diseases like diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, T.B., measles and hepatitis B.
“We will launch a major media campaign on March 23 which will continue for 15 days. We have found that in 63 per cent of the cases, people do not know the benefits of immunisation. The multimedia campaign is aimed at bridging this communication gap,” Rakesh Kumar, Joint secretary, Health Department stated.
Health Ministry officers aforementioned that between 2009-2013 immunization coverage has increased from sixty one per cent to sixty five per cent, indicating just one per cent increase in coverage per annum.
To accelerate the method of immunization to five per cent and immunising additional kids per annum, the “Mission Mode” has been adopted to attain target of full coverage by year 2020, Kumar said.
