Government considers land bill options
The numbers required to get the land bill passed has been quite vague. Due to this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is discussing the possible options regarding the land acquisition bill with BJP core group.
As the PM and his colleagues, as well as BJP chief Amit Shah, took note of the challenge due to continued reluctance of regional players to come and help the government help, they are not able to give the towel however. The ordinance can lapse on April 5 if not re-promulgated earlier.
The PM and other participants aforementioned the end of the ordinance may hurt farmers because the ordinance has hiked the compensation for land acquired for thirteen categories that had been left out of the UPA’s law.
Last week, non UPA and non-left parties like SP, BSP, BJP, ALADMK, and JDU helped the government pass the mining and coal bills even though there was resistance from congress and left parties.
Prime Minister had showed his reluctance to backtrack on the problem on Sunday once he took on the opposition for casting the legislation as hostile to the interests of farmers. Modi followed that up by another spirited defence of the bill on weekday once he addressed a rally in Punjab to mark the Martyrs’ Day.
