Entrepreneurs urge for India’s lockdown
With the alarming rise of COVID-19 cases in the country, a group of entrepreneurs requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lockdown India to reduce the deaths.
Around 51 entrepreneurs and venture capitalists wrote a letter to PM requesting a strict lockdown and ‘Section 144’, especially in affected cities for two weeks to control the impact of the deadly disease.
Abhiraj Singh Bhal, the co-founder of Urban Company after collaboration with other entrepreneurs tweeted a presentation. The presentation declaimed that the government should immediately impose lockdown and section 144 in all major impacted cities for 2-3 weeks. If needed, a second lockdown should be imposed later as per the situation.
It also read that countries like South Korea, Singapore and Japan acted early and controlled the transmission of the disease far better than other countries that acted late. These countries included Italy, Iran, France and the USA.
It further said that early and strong action is essential to curb the impact of the virus. Though restrictions on travel were being implemented in the country, a lot more actions were needed and that too immediately.
If a lockdown is imposed immediately or at least within a couple of days, deaths can be reduced by five times which means nearly 10,000 lives.
However, the government should have to take steps before imposing lockdown in the county and prepare for its social and economic cost. Citizens must have access to enough food, medicine and healthcare.
Though it is difficult, it is essential to control the number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the coming days. Otherwise, the loss may be huge.
The number of coronavirus cases rose to 151 in the country on Wednesday including 25 foreigners.
