Delhi’s Water problems on rise
Delhi, the National Capital is facing a severe water crisis. Free water and cheap electricity were two main promises that helped AAP to sweep the Assembly elections in 2015.
But, now the water crisis multiplies the woes of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The Assembly elections are approaching in Delhi, and the Delhiites are irate on water problems.
AAP had promised 20,000 litres of free water for each household in its election manifesto. But it is not possible for the government to provide quota as promised.
The peak demand in the regions is 1,200 MGD, but the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is supplying 900 MGD (million gallons a day) of water.
Furthermore, sewage mixed water is supplied in many areas and several complaints have been received from Delhiites.
In order to meet the water shortage, the DJB has pressed in water tankers in many colonies, however, they are also falling short.
It is quite common in many areas that people are fighting to fetch a bucket of water from water tanks.
Often these fights lead to the deaths of people in Delhi.
This helpless situation of people has been cashed by water tanker mafia. And people are forced to buy water from them.
Majority of AAP’s voters are living in these colonies. Despite the visits of the CM, the problem has not been solved.
Now, BJP is criticizing AAP for not providing enough water to Delhiites.
As per the BJP President Manoj Tiwari, 849 unauthorized colonies are not supplied water and 147 unauthorized colonies which do not have water pipelines have to depend on the water tankers.
The water tanker mafia is ruling in Delhi. But, it is not a new thing. It has been ruling since 2003.
There are also some allegations that some business people who have links with political parties run the private water supply operations through tankers.
