Delhi government implements GRAP Stage 4

As the air quality is deteriorating, the Delhi government decided to implement GRAP Stage 4 in the city. The air quality level was very poor in the national capital.

In the wake of rising air pollution, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) ordered to implement of a Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the city.

As per the weather forecast, the air quality in Delhi is likely to remain in the severe plus category in the coming days, with an AQI of above 450.

Under GRAP, air quality is categorized into four stages:

If the AQI is between 201 to 300, it falls under stage 1, and the air quality is considered poor. On the other hand, if the AQI is between 301 to 400, then it is considered very poor, and it falls into stage 2.

If the AQI is between 401 to 450, then the air quality is considered severe, and it falls under stage 3. Stage 4 of GRAP applies if the AQI is above 450, which is considered a severe plus.

The air quality will be worsening in Delhi in the next few days, hence the GRAP stage 4 has been implemented. So far, construction and demolition activities have been banned in Delhi under stage 3 GRAP.

But now, with the implementation of stage 4 GRAP, many activities will be banned.

Entry of all trucks except those carrying essential commodities and providing essential services will be stopped. However, CNG trucks will be permitted.

All diesel-operated goods vehicles registered in Delhi will be banned. Vehicles carrying essential commodities and providing essential services will be excluded from the ban.

In addition, 4-wheeler diesel LMVs will be banned. The government ordered to close down of all industries except approved ones. Some of them include industries that are involved in the manufacturing of life-saving drugs, equipment and medicines.

The government urged companies to allow their employees to work from home. Also, schools are directed to conduct online classes for students of Class 9 to 12.
