Centre resumes Biometric system in government offices
Due to a significant reduction in COVID-19 cases in the country, the central government asked all employees to come to the office.
The Centre yesterday announced that the work from home option for government employees has been stopped. The government also resumed a biometric system for the attendance of employees to the office.
The Department of Personnel and Training issued an office memorandum on Wednesday, saying that the government decided to resume the biometric system on 15 February 2022. It asked all government employees to mark their attendance using the biometric method as they did in the past. All personnel are asked to mark it in Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance Control System (AEBAS) from 16 February 2022.
However, all officials should follow the preventive measures while marking their attendance using the biometric method. The Department of Personnel and Training said that preventive measures are essential to control the spread of COVID-19.
The central government earlier asked all departments to reduce office attendance in the wake of the third wave of COVID-19. It issued directions on this to all Central Ministries and Departments to work with 50 per cent employees and allow remaining employees to work from home. Thus, the official attendance of the employees was restricted to 50 per cent.
As per the government order, 50 per cent of employees who were working from home shall available on the telephone and other modes of when they were contacted.
The government also exempted pregnant women and physically-challenged people from attending office due to COVID-19. They were allowed to work from home.
Now, the government stopped the work from home option and asked all employees to attend office. It asked all employees to strictly adhere to COVID-19 protocols, like wearing of face mask, frequent sanitization and washing of hands, following social distancing at the office.
