Centre issues new COVID-19 guidelines

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued new COVID-19 guidelines to be effective from December 1. The Ministry instructed all states and UTs to enforce these rules strictly and follow SOPs.

Here are the new guidelines issued by the government:

  • States and UTs have to make sure that containment zones are separated as per the prescribed guidelines. They should also implement containment measures.
  • Only essential activities shall be allowed in these zones. People in containment zones shall not be allowed to move in or out of these zones except for medical emergencies and get essential goods and services.
  • Surveillance teams shall be formed to conduct thorough house-to-house surveillance.
  • Testing shall be done as per prescribed protocol, and all COVID-19 tested positive people shall be isolated. Proper arrangements shall be done, for their tracking and follow-ups. They shall be provided with necessary treatment either at hospital or home.
  • States and UTs shall promote COVID-19 appropriate behaviour and enforce it strictly. They shall take actions on those who do not follow them. For example, imposing fines for not wearing facemasks in public places.
  • States shall create awareness among people in communities on COVID-19 appropriate behaviour. People have to follow social distancing in crowded places.
  • States and UTs shall enforce local restrictions like imposing night curfew, reducing the maximum number of guests to attend an event etc. to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. They shall adhere to the prescribed standard operating procedures.
  • There shall be no restriction on the movement of goods and people in both intrastate and interstate. There is no need to take separate permission or approval for such movements.
  • The government advises vulnerable people to stay at home except for essential needs and health purposes. These include children below 10 years, people above 65 years, pregnant women, and persons with co-morbidities.
