Centre announces Workplace Vaccination Drive

The vaccination drive has been going on in the country. Currently, all people aged above 45 years are eligible to get the vaccination. As per the government orders, everyone born before January 1, 1977, is eligible to get the vaccination.

While the vaccination is continuing, it is not up to the expectations of the government. There are many reasons for it.

In this situation, the central government yesterday announced a workplace vaccination drive from April 11, 2021, for all people aged above 45 years.

The Centre asked all states and UTs to make necessary arrangements for the massive inoculation drive to be launched soon.

Under this vaccination drive, vaccination camps will be held for employees at their workplaces if they have 100 or more eligible beneficiaries. It is to prevent the wastage of vaccines. All public and private sector employees aged 45 and above are eligible to get the vaccination at their workplaces.

The government hopes this move will benefit the people who cannot travel to vaccination centres due to their job responsibilities or for any other reasons.

This vaccination drive is strictly meant for the employees. No outsiders, including the family members of the employees (even though they are eligible), will be allowed to get the vaccination at the workplace.

All the eligible workplaces will have to register on the CoWIN platform. They should furnish all relevant details. The workplace should have three essential rooms for conducting such a vaccination drive. A waiting room, vaccination room and observation room. The structures should be permanent and stable. Tents and temporary structures are not allowed.

Beneficiaries can either register through the CoWIN platform. They can register on the spot also.

District or urban task force will identify the eligible workplaces. The management should choose a nodal officer from their staff to coordinate with the authorities.

The vaccination in government offices will be looked after by the nearest vaccination facility at a government hospital. Similarly, the nearest vaccination facility at a private hospital will look after the vaccination in private offices.
