Beware of COVID vaccine registration scam
Cybercrimes have been increasing for the past few years. While people become aware of certain frauds, fraudsters are seeking new ways to deceive them. As a result, new forms of cybercrimes arose.
Of late, a new form of fraud has come into the light, COVID vaccine registration scam. Now, the entire world is under the fangs of COVID-19. People are eagerly waiting to get the vaccine. It has given a chance for fraudsters to cheat people in a new way.
They make calls to people asking to register for COVID vaccine. They are collecting details like Aadhaar card number, email ID, and other vital details pretending to be authentic volunteers. After that, they ask for the OTP to authenticate Aadhaar number. As soon as you reveal your OTP, they will loot your bank account linked to the Aadhaar number.
In this context, the Cyber Cell of Thane Police issued a warning to be careful of such frauds. They ask people not to fall prey for such calls by revealing their crucial details.
Cybercrime department of the Central government also warned people to be careful about such type of frauds and fraudsters. The department also advised them not to open unknown messages, links or emails to avoid the risk of losing money or personal data.
Also, Madhya Pradesh Police issued a similar warning to people asking them to beware of fake calls as fraudsters found a new way to cheat people. They issued this warning soon after many citizens in the state received fake calls asking them to pay ₹500 to get COVID vaccine in the first phase.
In this scenario, you should note that there is no registration as of now for COVID-19 vaccine. Also, do not share your crucial and personal data with anyone on the phone or email. Never share any OTP received on your phone with anyone.
