AIIMS Delhi issues guidelines amidst JN.1 variant concerns

In response to Delhi’s first case of the JN.1 coronavirus variant, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has swiftly implemented crucial guidelines.

These guidelines help handle suspected or positive COVID-19 patients entering hospitals.

These directives aim to enhance screening, accommodation, and treatment, reflecting a proactive approach in the face of emerging variants.

Following a strategic meeting with department heads, the AIIMS director decided to establish a dedicated COVID-19 screening Outpatient Department within the emergency department.

This step ensures a focused evaluation of individuals presenting COVID-like symptoms, streamlining the identification process.

To address the potential influx of severely ill COVID-19 patients, AIIMS has allocated 12 beds in a specially designated ward.

This measure aims to enhance the hospitalization capacity and optimize the treatment of critically affected individuals.

AIIMS guidelines dictate that COVID testing will be administered for patients exhibiting Severe Acute Respiratory Infection-like symptoms. These symptoms include acute respiratory infection, persistent fever, or fever accompanied by cough.

The goal is to promptly identify and isolate potential cases, preventing further transmission.

Under the directives, all AIIMS departments are mandated to allocate space in their respective wards for COVID-positive inpatients.

This proactive measure ensures that the hospital is well-prepared to handle potential surges in COVID-19 cases.

Recognizing the importance of infection control, AIIMS is taking prompt engineering measures to install advanced air purifying filters.

This step is crucial in creating a safer environment for both patients and healthcare workers, minimizing the risk of airborne transmission.

In related news, the Delhi Health Minister confirmed the city’s first case of the coronavirus sub-variant JN.1.

Urging the public not to succumb to panic, the minister assured that necessary measures are being taken to address and contain the situation.

AIIMS Delhi’s swift response and proactive guidelines underscore the importance of adapting healthcare strategies in the evolving landscape of the pandemic.

By fortifying screening processes and prioritizing infection control measures, AIIMS sets a precedent for proactive and efficient management of emerging COVID variants.
