AAP’s doorstep ration delivery scheme put on hold by Centre | Fusion - WeRIndia

It seems that AAP and BJP are fighting for the upper hand in the national capital. Recently, the Centre presented the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCTD) Bill (Amendment) 2021 in the Lok Sabha, seeking more powers to Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor. Now, the Centre put a prestigious scheme of AAP on hold days before rolling out.

To revolutionize the public distribution scheme, the Delhi government announced the rolling out of a new initiative. It decided to deliver the ration at the doorsteps of the beneficiaries. The scheme was notified under Mukhya Mantri Ghar Ghar Ration Yojna (MMGGRY) by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

CM Kejriwal announced the initiative during his Republic Day speech. He said that under MMGGRY, packed wheat flour and rice would be delivered to consumers at their doorsteps after verifying their biometrics.

The Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation prepared a list of beneficiaries with all relevant details like their biometric specifications, quota etc. Based on that, the government decided the processing charge to be paid by the beneficiaries.

There are around 17 lakh PDS beneficiaries in Delhi. All beneficiaries who have a ration card in the national capital can use the scheme. The Delhi government left the decision of choosing the new scheme to the beneficiaries. It also planned to deliver the ration to around 100 households in the initial phase.

The doorstep delivery of the ration scheme is supposed to start on March 25. Meanwhile, the central government put it on hold.

The Centre said that state governments should not make any changes to the ration distribution scheme as the ration is provided to them under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). Hence, states shall not use it with a new name.

Centre’s this move irked the AAP-led Delhi government. AAP questioned on Twitter asking why the Modi government was against stopping the Ration Mafia.
