Tips to keep your feet healthy

Your feet do a lot of work daily. They bear the weight of your body. However, many people do not take care of their feet. But healthy feet can improve your overall health.

Here are some tips for healthy feet:

  • Check your feet regularly to monitor their health. Treat them immediately if you find any sores, cuts, swelling or infection.
  • Clean your feet with warm water. You may occasionally soak them in warm water but avoid it regularly, as it may dry your feet.
  • Apply a lotion or cream to your feet to keep them moisturized and prevent cracking or itching. But, don’t apply it between your toes to prevent infections.
  • Always wear properly-fitted shoes. Avoid wearing tight-fitting shoes or high heels as they may hurt your feet. Tight-fitting shoes can also irritate and lead to corns and calluses.
  • Also, do not wear the same pair of shoes daily. Buy two or three pairs of shoes and wear them alternatively. You can also use gel pad inserts to reduce pressure on your feet.
  • If you find mild corns or calluses, use corn pads to relieve pressure. Wear thick socks to cover them. Apply salicylic acid to dissolve corns as per prescribed directions.
  • Trim your toenails using a nail clipper and smooth their corners to prevent them from growing into your skin and thereby infection.
  • Sweaty feet not only cause discomfort but also lead to infections. Some people are more prone to this condition. Stress, hormonal changes and certain medications may also trigger the condition.
  • Follow these tips to keep sweaty feet under control: Wash your feet regularly with antibacterial soap and wipe them thoroughly. Sprinkle them with antifungal powder. Wear moisture-wicking socks and change them twice or thrice in the day. These tips also can control foot odour.
