Prevent gallstones naturally
Gallstones are hard pieces of material formed of digestive fluids like bilirubin or cholesterol. They are formed in the gallbladder. The size of gallstones ranges from a grain of sand to a golf ball.
While some people develop one gallstone, others may develop many gallstones. Gallstones do not cause any symptoms in many people, and they don’t need treatment.
However, some people have the following symptoms: Nausea, pain in the right shoulder, pain between shoulder blades, sudden and intensifying pain in the centre or upper right portion of the abdomen or just below the breastbone. People who experience symptoms generally need gallbladder removal surgery.
Anybody can develop gallstones. But, obese people and diabetics are at a higher risk of developing gallstones.
You can prevent gallstones naturally with some food items:
- Some researchers proved that drinking coffee in moderate limits could reduce the risk of gallstones.
- Some other studies showed that moderate consumption of olive oil helped in lowering the chances of developing gallstones. Moderate consumption means not more than two tablespoons per day. Researchers identified that the incidence of gallstones was lower in people who live in areas where olive oil consumption is high. Hence, they concluded that a component in olive oil could effectively lower cholesterol levels in the blood and gallbladder.
- Eating fibre-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, oats etc., helps prevent gallstones.
- Raw fruits and vegetables and cooked dried beans and peas also help prevent gallstones.
- Some people follow crash diets to lose weight. But, it is not at all good for health. So, consume a healthy and balanced diet.
- Do not consume too low-calorie diet regularly.
- A high-fibre but low-fat diet keeps bile cholesterol in liquid form and thereby helps prevent gallstones. At the same time, too little fat is not recommended.
- Consume low sugar and refined carbohydrates.
- Lecithin is found in soybeans, eggs, milk, cabbage, peanuts, and chocolate. It helps prevent gallstones.
- Avoid unhealthy fats and add healthy fats to your diet.
