Home remedies to get rid of bad breath
Bad breath is one of the most annoying conditions. Though it is a sign of poor dental or oral hygiene, other conditions like diabetes or liver and kidney diseases may also be some underlying causes.
Also, dry mouth, tonsils, gum diseases, infections in the nose, throat or lungs and digestive conditions like acid reflux can cause bad breath.
Whatever is the underlying cause of bad breath, it may cause embarrassment to those suffering from the condition.
Many spices used in the Indian kitchen help get rid of bad breath. They also keep your mouth fresh.
Here are some home remedies to get rid of bad breath:
- Chewing clove helps reduce bad breath. It not only stops the growth of bacteria that cause bad breath but also helps fight against the condition.
- Fennel seeds also control bad breath. You can either chew the seeds directly or gargle with warm water infused with fennel seeds to get rid of bad breath.
- Cardamom keeps your mouth fresh. Chew one cardamom daily to treat bad breath. Or add a pinch of cardamom powder to hot water and gargle with the water.
- Chew star anise to treat bad breath. It also keeps your breath refreshed.
- Holy basil is another beneficial home remedy for bad breath. Holy basil has many medicinal properties. Chew some leaves regularly. You can also use the powder made of dried basil leaves to brush your teeth to treat bad breath and dental problems.
- Eating yoghurt can help reduce bacteria in the mouth and the unpleasant smell they cause.
Apart from the above home remedies, the following tips also help to treat bad breath:
- Brush twice regularly.
- Floss daily.
- Clean your tongue every time you brush.
- Drink adequate water.
- Avoid caffeinated drinks and alcohol.
- Chew sugar-free gum to improve saliva production.
