Whatsapp payments – Know all about it
WhatsApp, the global messaging app owned by Facebook, is the most popular chat app in India, with about 200 million monthly active users. It is competing with Google Tez and Paytm in being India’s favorite app in the digital payments space.
Now, a beta payment service has been launched in India this week, which has been in development since July of 2017, when WhatsApp got approval for integration with Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which allows Indians to use their smartphones to transact across 30 banks in the country.
The payment service will take advantage of UPI and will be supported by several banks, including the State Bank of India, the HDFC Bank, and the Axis Bank.
In order to begin using the payment service in WhatsApp, users must know their WhatsApp number, which should be their mobile number linked to their bank account with UPI option support. Click on the payment option, which will be in the settings of WhatsApp.
Select the option to “add a bank account” and accept the terms and conditions. After that, users must verify their number through the app.
After users verify their numbers through WhatsApp, a list of the different banks will appear. Select one of the banks, and make sure that the bank account has been linked to UPI.
Users can also use the WhatsApp payments to create a UPI account with a pin, which allows the payments to be authenticated. After that, users must have their debit card at hand in order to add the details of their debit card in the app.
In order to actually perform the transaction, users must go to any private chat or group chat and select the person to whom they want to transfer their bank account money. Select the “Attachment” option and then select the option to send money.
Enter the amount of money that will be sent to the person, and the OTP or the UPI pin will do the rest of the work in the transaction. Now, with this convenient feature available to the millions of Indian WhatsApp users, money transactions can become much easier and more efficient.
