Tips to secure your ATM transactions and PIN

To improve security for transactions at ATM, State Bank of India (SBI) has provided tips to its customers. These tips help customers to keep their money safe and secured.

SBI customers need to enter OTP for all withdrawals above ₹10,000. The bank made it mandatory across all its ATMs from 18 September 2020.

SBI has provided these tips on their website and also on Twitter.

Here is a list of dos and don’ts mentioned by SBI:

  • Always perform ATM transactions in complete privacy. Before moving out of ATM and after the completion of a transaction, make sure that the welcome screen is displayed on the ATM.
  • Register your mobile number with the bank to get alerts for all your transactions and avoid fraudulent activities.
  • After withdrawing money from ATM, check the SMS received on your phone and verify the amount. If you find any discrepancy, inform the bank immediately.
  • If you do not receive cash from the ATM and ATM does not display the cash-out message, then inform the bank on the given number.
  • Also, check your transaction alerts and bank statements from time to time.
  • Check the ATM while using your debit card for any suspicious devices attached.
  • Inform bank authorities if you find any fraudulent activities. Also, inform the bank immediately if your debit card is lost or stolen.

  • Do not allow strangers while you are withdrawing cash from ATM. Also, do not engage with them in conversation.
