Do you know that you can sell your products on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM)? The Commerce Department of the Government of India developed an e-Marketplace, GeM, for transparency in the procurement of products and services through a tender process of the government.

It is a suitable platform for micro and small businesses to sell their products. It helps them reduce their expenses. The platform not just improves the transparency, but also the efficiency and speed in procuring products.

The purchases made through this portal are authorized. The portal has been helping lakhs of MSME sellers to enhance their business.

The geM helps vendors sell their products anywhere in the country. This portal enables direct access to government departments. Sellers will get notifications to participate in the bidding process of their relevant category. It also helps in constant purchase procedures.

The geM helps buyers place multiple orders for the same product from various consignees. They can also place a single order of their choice for required quantities. Thus, this portal helps get flexible deliveries and bulk procurement.

The government is looking for the following types of products: Medical supplies like N95 facemasks, ventilators, face shields etc., sanitation supplies like hospital sanitisers, soaps, floor cleaners handwash etc., and office and stationery supplies tables, desks, computers and printers.

As per Economic Survey 2022, the prices of products sold on GeM were lower than those of selling on other eCommerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart.

The survey noted that the prices of half of the products were cheaper on this portal compared to other eCommerce portals.

Besides, their prices were lower by 9.5% than those of others. Usage of the portal not just resulted in lower prices but improved their efficiency as well.
