NIC Winter Internship 2026: Apply for ₹10,000 Stipend
Practical exposure can help students strengthen their technical skills and prepare for future career opportunities.
Engineering and computer science students now have an opportunity to gain valuable experience through a government internship programme.
The National Informatics Centre (NIC), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has announced its Winter Internship Programme 2026.
The initiative will allow selected students to explore emerging technologies and work under the guidance of experienced technical mentors.
NIC will recruit 50 interns for a two-month programme at its headquarters in New Delhi.
Selected candidates will receive ₹10,000 per month, amounting to ₹20,000 for the entire internship. The programme will follow an offline format.
Students pursuing BE/BTech, ME/MTech, MCA and relevant computer science programmes are eligible to apply.
However, applicants must be enrolled in recognised universities or institutions and have secured at least 60% marks in their most recently completed qualifying examination.
Course-wise eligibility requirements also apply. Third-year BE/BTech students, first-year ME/MTech and MSc Computer Science students, and second-year MCA students can apply.
Eligible candidates from dual-degree ME/MTech and DoEACC programmes can also participate under the prescribed conditions.
The internship will cover several important technology domains. These include Artificial Intelligence, Python programming, cybersecurity, network security, cloud computing, DevOps and blockchain technology.
Additionally, interns can explore data analytics, microservices, mobile computing, Java programming, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Open APIs.
Through these areas, participants can understand how modern technologies support government platforms and large-scale digital services. Moreover, they can improve their technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities and professional skills.
Successful participants will receive an internship certificate after fulfilling the prescribed completion requirements.
NIC will provide a monthly stipend of ₹10,000. Candidates may also receive an extension of up to one additional month, subject to applicable conditions. An additional ₹10,000 stipend will apply for the extended period.
Interested students must apply online through the Digital India Internship Portal. They should register, log in, complete the application form and upload the required supporting documents.
The application process began on November 2, 2026, and will close on November 13, 2026.
Selected candidates will commence their internship on December 1, 2026, and complete it by January 31, 2027.
Since NIC has announced only 50 positions, selection will depend on its prescribed recruitment process.
Candidates should also note that the internship requires physical attendance at NIC Headquarters in New Delhi.
Eligible students should review the official guidelines and submit their applications before the deadline.
The programme offers valuable government-sector technology exposure, but it does not guarantee permanent employment at NIC.
