Twitter Samvad launched by government to send political updates and more
Twitter on Tuesday launched Twitter Samvad together with the Indian government, therefore, to enable people to receive tweets as SMSes from government offices, as well as the Prime Minister’s office.
The service was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi after his meeting with Twitter chief executive Dick Costolo, who told media persons after the meeting that this initiative is based on Indian technological innovation and Twitter Samvad is devoted and specially designed for the largest democracy of the world.
As a part of the Prime Minister’s Digital Bharat initiative, this tweet-powered service permits citizens to be the first to know about the government’s actions by receiving political content in real-time on their mobile devices anyplace within the country.
At present, there are 16 offices including the ministry of railways, the Bengaluru police and the chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal are a part of the Twitter Samvad. The service is powered by Bengaluru based ZipDial, which was recently acquired by Twitter.
Regarding the collaboration, Modi tweeted: “Let’s deepen our connect! Give a missed call on 011 3006 3006 & get my Tweets on your mobile as SMS”.
Users should give a missed call to numbers associated with an account to follow that account via SMS. Then, they will receive curated tweets from the government offices.
