HC directs government to increase beds for COVId-19 patients in Delhi
COVID-19 cases are rising in the national capital. In this context, the Delhi High Court directed the AAP government and the central government to increase the number of beds and ventilators for coronavirus patients.
The court also ordered both the governments to make sure that all COVID-19 patients in need can avail these facilities.
The directions have been issued considering the present needs of the public in Delhi. The court would give directions from time to time based on the changing needs of the people.
The Delhi government informed the court that 9,719 beds are available for COVID-19 patients. Among them, 4,914 were occupied and the remaining are available. At the same time, out of 569 ventilators, 315 were being used and the remaining are available.
Then, the court directed both the Centre and Delhi government to increase the number of beds and ventilators for the patients.
The court also said that all hospitals in Delhi should upload the availability of real-time bed capacity data for the people to decide the hospital in advance.
The AAP government said that all the guidelines and directions issued by the Centre have been strictly followed in the national capital.
The Delhi government was also arranging beds from private hospitals as per the advice of experts to meet the increasing needs of the public.
The High Court asked the AAP government to consider the suggestion of advocate Chakravarty. He suggested using the ready-to-move-in government flats for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
The court also said that the government should test the experiment based solutions as the situations are turning very fast.
The court expected the respondents, the Centre and Delhi government shall follow the guidelines and directions to treat the COVID-19 patients effectively.
