Solar-powered umbrellas for summer heat

Summers are extremely harsh in many parts of the country. Though most of the common people are at home due to lockdown, frontline warriors, especially the cops have to do their duty under the blazing sun.

The entire police personnel are vigilant in red zones and containment zones. In Maharashtra, as the number of coronavirus cases is rising, more police are doing their duty with minimal breaks.

In this context, Adeeb Mansuri, an engineering student from Ahmedabad wanted to help the police as they are doing their duty with no protection from heat.

This 23-year-old wants to use his knowledge and skills to do something for them.

Adeeb designed solar-powered umbrellas. These umbrellas give shade and cool air.

This unique solar-powered umbrella has a small fan, charging sockets and solar panels that can generate up to 20 watts.

Besides, they have a battery backup to be used at nights. Thus, these solar-powered umbrellas are useful in both day and night.

This idea came to his mind in January this year when he came across solar-powered table fans. He then enrolled himself in the incubator centre of his college. He successfully designed the prototype umbrella with the guidance of his professors and gave it to the security guard of his college. Now, he used those skills and designed two umbrellas.

Each umbrella costs him up to ₹3,000. He provided two umbrellas for free at different parts of his city. The police liked his model as it is very effective.

They ordered for five more such umbrellas. Adeeb’s college is supporting him financially and in procuring raw materials.

He is studying final year of engineering at L.J. Institute of Engineering and Technology.
