Cyclone Fani warning to Odisha
Cyclone Fani is approaching the Odisha coast and it turned into a severe cyclonic storm. The cyclone is expected to cross Balukhanda in Puri on May 3 afternoon.
In this context, the Odisha Government directed all educational institutions to declare holidays from May 2 until they receive further orders.
It also ordered to reschedule all examinations during these days.
All universities and colleges that are located in Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts will remain closed from May 2 to May 4.
Tourists are advised to leave Puri by today evening as well.
The wind speed of Fani is about 175 kmph, and the cyclone will pass through Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Balasore and Mayurbhanj in Odisha.
As per the IMD bulletin released on yesterday morning, cyclone Fani moved northwestwards with a speed of approximately 10 kmph.
It is expected to move northwestwards during next 12 hours and then recurve north-northeastwards after which it will cross Odisha Coast.
In this scenario, keep all essential things handy. Also, keep non-perishable food ready to meet an emergency.
Listen to the weather warnings of All India Radio stations. Observe warnings continuously. Do not believe rumours spreading on social media platforms.
Stay alert if a cyclone warning is given in your area. Reach a high shelter if cyclone warning is given. Also, take shelter in the safe place of your house. Keep storm shutters in place. Check outside doors and give them the needed support to prevent damage.
The Election Commission of India in this context approved to lift the Model Code of Conduct in 11 districts in Odisha to help the public during the cyclone.
