Cyclone Mandous to bring heavy rains in AP and TN

As per the forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rains are expected in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry.

IMD said that Cyclone Mandous would cross near the Chennai coast today at midnight. It said that the cyclone storm is 390 km east-southeast of Karaikal.

Due to this, north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh will have heavy rainfall. It is also predicted that these areas will have severe winds.

Many areas in Tamil Nadu have moderate rainfall. In the wake of the cyclone alert, many schools and colleges are shut today in six districts of Tamil Nadu.


In addition, all parks and playgrounds will also remain closed until the government issues further notice. People are asked not to visit beaches today. They are advised not to park their cars under trees. Besides, all shops on the beachside have been shut down due to a heavy rainfall alert.

Power interruptions are likely to occur. So, people are asked to keep torches and candles ready. Also, the Tamil Nadu government asked people to avoid journeys and keep adequate food items, dry fruits, and water ready.

As per the IMD forecast, Cyclone Mandous will cross Puducherry and Sriharikota today at midnight with an estimated wind speed of 75 kmph. As a result, the adjoining areas of south Andhra Pradesh will receive heavy rainfall.

It is predicted that Nellore, Chittoor, Tirupathi, and coastal districts will have heavy rainfall. The Andhra Pradesh government asked officials to be vigilant. It is also reviewing the situation and discussing it with concerned officials.

In Tamil Nadu, a red alert was issued in 13 districts. Areas like Puducherry, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, and Kancheepuram are predicted to receive extremely heavy rainfall.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are ready in 10 districts. Boats and tree cutters are also kept ready where they are required.

The Puducherry government opened cyclone relief centres. NDRF teams are ready in Puducherry as well.
