Cyclone Michuang updates: Relief measures underway

In a tumultuous turn of events, the severe cyclonic storm Michuang unleashed its fury, making landfall near Nellore and Machilipatnam and wreaking havoc across Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

With wind speeds reaching a menacing 90-100 km/h, the storm has left a trail of destruction in its wake, causing heavy rainfall, flooding, and claiming twelve lives in rain-related incidents in Chennai.

In response to the crisis, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh swiftly initiated emergency measures, closing all schools and placing eight districts on high alert.

These districts, including Tirupati, Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Krishna, West Godavari, Konaseema, and Kakinada, are grappling with the aftermath of the storm.

The Chief Minister convened a meeting with district collectors to assess the situation and allocate funds to safeguard crops.

Prime Minister Modi assured continuous coordination with the states on the eastern coast for relief and rescue operations.

In constant touch with state governments, he urged BJP workers in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh to collaborate with local administrations in these critical efforts.

The Tamil Nadu government, battered by the relentless rainfall, has sought interim Central assistance of ₹5000 crore to provide relief and rebuild damaged infrastructure.

One of the DMK leaders emphasized the urgency of releasing these funds to aid the state’s relentless efforts in safeguarding its people.

Despite the challenges, the Tamil Nadu government has reported significant strides in restoration efforts.

Approximately 80% of power supply and 70% of mobile networks have been successfully restored in Chennai.

It showcased the resilience and determination of the authorities in the face of Cyclone Michuang’s impact.

As the storm progresses, relief operations intensify, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to restore normalcy and provide essential aid to the affected regions.

The relentless spirit of the affected communities, coupled with coordinated governmental responses, stands as a beacon of hope amid the adversity unleashed by Cyclone Michuang.
