Aruna Reddy, a young gymnast hailing from Hyderabad, has just made history by obtaining India’s first ever gymnastics bronze medal at the 2018 Gymnastics World Cup.

Her career began thanks to her late father, B. Narayana Reddy, who first realized that Aruna had just the right agility and build for a gymnast.

When Aruna was 5 years old, Narayana enrolled her at the Lal Bahadur Shastri stadium in Hyderabad, and she began her training at this early age.

Aruna dedicates her newly-won medal to her father, who was always there for her when she struggled. However, he did not live long enough to see her win this medal.

Aruna had participated in Karate alongside her gymnastics, and she is a former black belt and Karate trainer. She had first trained under the guidance of two coaches, Swarnalatha and Ravinder.

After Swarnalatha’s husband, Giriraj, realized Aruna’s potential as a gymnast, he took over her training, until he, too, passed away in 2008.

After Giriraj’s death, Brij Kishore became Aruna’s new trainer, and the young gymnast began to blossom and fully show her potential under his training.

Under Brij, Aruna claimed several medals at three National Games.

In 2014, Aruna began to make her name known internationally, when she came in 14th place in the qualification round of Vault apparatus at the Commonwealth Games.

She also secured a 9th place finish at the Asian Games. In the 2017 Asian Championships, Aruna finished in 6th place in Vault.

Now, she has earned India its first ever medal in gymnastics by getting the bronze medal at the 2018 Gymnastics World Cup, giving hope to all Indian gymnasts.

However, Aruna is not stopping there, and is determined to perform even better in upcoming international events, starting with the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

With this history-making accomplishment, Aruna is giving hope to all Indian gymnasts with her perseverance and determination.
