Cancel Rail tickets with just a phone call
Now, you can cancel your train tickets with just a phone call. Indian Railways unveiled a new feature which facilitates the passengers to cancel their booked tickets. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu launched the scheme yesterday.
Now, passengers of Indian Railways can cancel their tickets with just a phone call or SMS even for those who booked at the counter.
Earlier, passengers who booked the tickets need to cancel their tickets only at the counters. But, the new feature enables the commuters to cancel their tickets simply.
You need to dial 139 to cancel their booked tickets. Then, the interactive voice leads you to cancellation process. You need to select the digit 6 on your dialling screen for cancelation. You will be sent a One Time Password (OTP) to cancel the ticket and claim refund which can be made within a certain period of time. OTP needs to be submitted at the counter where the journey commences.
The refund should be claimed within two hours of departure if the train departs between 6 am to 6 pm i.e. 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours, and the refund should be claimed within four hours of departure if the train departs between 6 pm to 6 am.
So, you must note that you can cancel your ticket if there is a minimum of four hours of time for departure with the available option.
You can cancel your tickets though SMS as well. You need to send your PNR number to 139 to cancel via SMS. You will receive the OTP from the Railway messaging portal in reply to your SMS. The OTP is to be submitted at the counter of the station where the journey starts.
Now, NRIs can use any debit or credit card to book tickets for themselves or their family members. Only the American Express International Credit card was accepted in the past.
