Heroes of Operation Sindoor to shine on Independence Day
India will honour its bravest on Independence Day for their valour during Operation Sindoor.
The operation, carried out from May 7 to 10, was a direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 tourists, including a Nepali citizen.
Seven top military officers will receive gallantry medals for their courage. Notably, four Indian Air Force (IAF) officers will be awarded the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal, the nation’s highest wartime distinguished service award.
This medal was last awarded to the IAF after the 1999 Kargil War. It is the wartime equivalent of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, which is given for exceptional distinguished service.
Besides the IAF officers, two from the Indian Army and one from the Indian Navy will also be honoured during the August 15 celebrations. These awards underline the joint efforts of all three services during the operation.
Under Operation Sindoor, India struck at terrorist and military infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The precision operation demonstrated India’s strong military resolve and strategic planning.
In addition, the Border Security Force (BSF) has announced gallantry awards for 16 personnel for their exceptional bravery during Operation Sindoor.
The BSF, responsible for securing India’s western border, played a vital role in the operation.
The awardees include a deputy commandant, two assistant commandants, and an inspector. These awards highlight the courage and commitment of India’s frontline border guards.
