How a village dropout turned an idea into income

In rural India, small ideas can lead to big changes. R Madhu, a civil engineering dropout from Jookal village in Telangana, proves just that.

Financial struggles forced him to quit his studies. But he refused to give up.

Determined to find a way forward, Madhu explored simple, low-cost business options.

He noticed the popularity of corn-based snacks and saw an opportunity. Without delay, he bought an electric corn-roasting and boiling machine for ₹50,000.

He set up his stall at the Triveni Sangamam during Saraswati Pushkaralu, a 12-day spiritual festival held from May 15 to May 26 in Kaleswaram.

There, he offered freshly roasted and boiled corn in various flavours. The stall became a quick favourite for its taste, speed, and affordability.

Visitors loved the snacks. Word spread fast. His booth stood out among hundreds. By the end of the festival, Madhu had earned ₹50,000 in profit.

Encouraged by the success, he continued the business beyond the festival. Now, his venture provides a steady monthly income of ₹30,000 to ₹50,000.

His simple model, low investment, and high demand have become a case study in rural entrepreneurship.

What makes Madhu’s journey special is not just his personal success. His work shines a light on the power of micro-enterprises to change lives, especially in villages.

His idea is now being promoted among women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs), encouraging them to follow his lead.

Madhu’s story is one of grit, innovation, and resilience. He turned hardship into opportunity with focus and effort.

From a college dropout to a successful entrepreneur, his journey inspires countless others in similar situations.

In a time when rural youth often migrate in search of jobs, Madhu chose to stay and build something of his own.

His success reminds us that with the right idea and determination, even the smallest ventures can create a lasting impact.
