Truck driver’s son leads to world cup win
When there is a determined effort, nothing can stop a person from achieving a goal.
This is proven once again by Harjeet Singh. His amazing game play was crucial for India to win for the second time this year in junior men’s hockey team against Belgium.
India has won the world cup in this. In 15 years, this was the first time India had such a final.
India won with a 2-1 against Belgium and won the 2016 Hockey Junior World Cup at Lucknow’s Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium on Sunday.
This is also the first time a host nation has won the Cup in the 11 editions of the cup.
Harjeet Singh has led the team from the front.
He is a 20-year-old mid-fielder from Kurali, Punjab.
With his graceful plays he controlled all of the midfield and gave his strikers good chances to counter attack.
With his game play, Indian team’s control of the game became easy right from the beginning.
Harjeet was also very important for Indian junior team winning other matches recently. The story of Harjeet is quite an inspiring one.
He hails from humble background. His father is a truck driver who earns barely enough.
From his village background, he is now the Indian team captain.
Harjeet started playing hockey with his neighborhood kids in 2000s.
He was inspired by a local hockey player who dominated the field with his skill.
When he wanted to pursue hockey as his life, his parents were unsure. This is because their financial position was not good at all. His father’s earning was not enough to support his career.
However, his family borrowed money to buy Harjeet hockey kits. His parents wanted him to focus on studies instead of hockey. While he did so, his heart was with hockey.
So he would sneakily play hockey. By the time his parents found out, Harjeet made quite a name for himself and now he is the captain of Indian team.
