Man turns can into ambulance

As India is under lockdown, vehicular movement is limited on roads. In this situation, people who have health emergencies found it difficult to reach hospitals. There are certain times where medical emergency number is not responding to all calls.

Even if the calls are attended, many times, patients are being told that the vehicle is not available at that time or it is very far away from their place.

This causes troubles especially to pregnant women and elderly people. This made a man think of ways to help them.

To help them, a man in Uttarakhand has turned his car into an ambulance. 32-year-old Ganesh Bhat is using his car as an ambulance by carrying patients to nearby hospitals in times of need.

On average, he carries four emergency cases to the hospital daily. So far, he helped around 20 emergency cases. These are non-COVID patients.

Bhat is a resident of Devprayag of Tehri district. It is a hilly region. Hence, it is difficult for vehicles to reach on time. Bhat says that their life was tough even before the lockdown. But, with the lockdown, it has become even more difficult.

Intending to help patients, his blue Tata Nano has been turned into an ambulance. Bhat printed his contact details on the front and back windshield of his car. His car will be available to serve patients round the clock near his district.

Initially, Bhat put a message on his Facebook page with his details expressing his interest to serve people in times of medical emergency. He received his first call from a pregnant woman followed by a child who had broken his arm.

Apart from this service, he also provides medicines and essential supplies to people who request them.
