Kerala beedi worker donates ₹2 lakhs to CM Relief Fund
While COVID-19 requires physical distance among people, it has bonded people psychologically and emotionally.
Not only the rich, but many common people are also helping others to the maximum possible extent.
A beedi worker from Kannur, Kerala is a good example of this. He donated ₹2 lakhs to Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) in Kerala. He was left with just ₹850 in his bank account.
When bank officials suggested keeping some more money with him, he denied saying that he can earn by rolling beedies. He also said that he was receiving the disability pension. Hence, he requested the bank officials to transfer ₹2 lakhs to CM’s Relief Fund.
The man’s identity was not revealed. When Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Finance Minister Thomas Isaac shared this post on social media, the story went viral. Netizens applauded the beedi worker for his kindness towards others and confidence to earn money for his livelihood even after giving all his money to the charity.
Currently, several people are donating to CMDRF in Kerala to support the government in procuring COVID-19 vaccines from the manufacturers.
In another incident, a businessman in Uttar Pradesh offered COVID-19 patients oxygen cylinders for ₹1.
Manoj Gupta is the owner of the Rimjhim Ispat Factory in Sumerpur Industrial Area in Hamirpur. Identifying the needs of oxygen for COVID-19 patients, he decided to help. His bottling plant has a capacity of refilling 1,000 oxygen cylinders per day. So, he is refilling around 1,000 oxygen cylinders in his bottling plant and sending them to patients across Jhansi, Lalitpur, Banda, Kanpur, and Orai for just ₹1.
Gupta was infected with COVID-19 in the first wave last year. Hence, he knew the problems of the patients. That’s why he decided to provide oxygen cylinders to ₹1 to all patients in need.
