IAS couple sets an inspiring example with a ₹500 wedding
In a country where lavish weddings are often the norm, an IAS couple from India has set an inspiring example of simplicity and practicality.
IAS officers Saloni Sidana and Ashish Vashisht made headlines in 2016 when they tied the knot with a wedding that cost only ₹500.
Despite having the means to afford a grand celebration, they chose a minimalist approach, focusing on the essence of their union rather than extravagance.
The wedding took place in November 2016 at the ADM Court in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh.
Surrounded by their close family members, Saloni and Ashish exchanged vows in a simple court ceremony. They incurred just the court fee of ₹500.
Ashish, originally from Alwar in Rajasthan, and Saloni, hailing from Jalalabad in Punjab, are both the first officers in their respective families, making their achievement even more remarkable.
The couple’s decision to avoid the social media spotlight has only added to their appeal.
While their wedding gained significant attention for its simplicity, Ashish and Saloni have remained private, choosing to focus on their careers and personal lives rather than seeking fame.
Ashish, an IIT Roorkee graduate, is currently serving as the ADM of Bhopal. Meanwhile, Saloni, who holds an MBBS degree, is posted in Jabalpur. Saloni changed her cadre to be closer to her husband after their marriage.
Their love story began in 2014 when they first met during their IAS training. They were trained at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie.
What started as a friendship gradually blossomed into love, culminating in their modest wedding.
In a country where wedding expenses often run into lakhs or even crores, Saloni and Ashish’s decision to spend only ₹500 on their wedding is a powerful statement. They have shown that true love and commitment do not require a hefty price tag.
Their story continues to inspire many, reminding us that the true essence of a marriage lies in the bond between two people, not in the grandeur of the celebration.
