Dr Perugu Ramakrishna, a literary luminary in Telugu poetry
Dr Perugu Ramakrishna, a towering figure in Telugu literature, has made significant contributions to both poetry and prose over a literary career spanning five decades.
With 26 books to his name, he is renowned for his diverse works that include poetry, translations, and scholarly writings.
His excellence in literature has earned him prestigious accolades such as the Saraswati Samman and the Jatiya Rajya Bhasha Gaurav Samman.
In addition, he has been honoured with titles like Matru Bhasha Seva Shiromani and Bharat Bhasha Bhushan.
Among his notable works is a poem about flamingos, first published during the 2006 Flamingo Festival, which garnered widespread recognition in environmental literature.
This poem was translated into six Indian languages and two foreign languages. It was even included in the school textbook, which is a remarkable milestone for his work.
Dr Ramakrishna was born on May 27, 1960, in Nellore. His academic journey was equally diverse.
He earned an M.A. in English Literature from Andhra University, and an M.A. in Public Administration from Osmania University.
Besides, he has diplomas in Industrial Relations, Personnel Management, and Computer Applications.
His literary career began in 1975 when his first poem was published. During the 1980s, he became an influential figure in the literary community, editing the magazine Manasa Veena, which fostered emerging literary talent.
Dr Ramakrishna’s achievements have been recognized both nationally and internationally, with over 150 national awards and 60 international accolades.
He has received the Visishta Kavi Ugadi Puraskaram, the Telugu University Keerthi Puraskaram, and the Telangana Sahitya Akademi Puraskaram, among others.
His scholarly work includes translations for institutions like the National Book Trust of India and the Sahitya Akademi.
A recipient of an honorary D.Litt. from Prague in 2016, Dr Ramakrishna has participated in numerous global literary events.
His poetic influence continues to resonate, making him a lasting luminary in Telugu literature.
